Couple’s counselling in Maida Vale

Couple’s counselling can become a real safe haven for couples who experience difficult times.

Many couples run into difficulties after the initial ‘honey-moon’ period: the relationship feels stale, both partners might feel misunderstood, unloved or even emotionally unsafe.

There is no shame in this, on the contrary, it is quite common.

“For one human being to love another: that is perhaps the most difficult of all our tasks, the ultimate, the last test and proof, the work for which all other work is but preparation.”
— Rainer Maria Rilke (Letters to a Young Poet)

A course of couple’s therapy can be of real help to overcome these problems, to understand one-another better, to learn new, effective and loving ways of communicating to solve long-standing problems and to find a way to heal old hurts.

Having an experienced couple’s counsellor with you helps to feel safer. Over time, with work, we can turn your relationship into the one you really want.

Equally, some couples may choose to come to couple’s counselling to find a way to break up amicably – especially where children are involved. Here, too, relationship counselling may be of great value: having a third party with you to find a safe and contained atmosphere in which to come to positive solutions for the good of all involved.

Some couples prefer to have sessions which are longer than the usual 50 minutes, so that together we can get deeper and faster into the process. If you wish, we can try to arrange this.

You might just want to talk more, or you might want to be taught new communication skills and to work on specific exercises to improve your relationship. Longer sessions are charged pro rata.

(For example, a 2 1/2 hour `Saturday-Intensive´ will be charged at £225 – or £440 for two 2 1/2 hours sessions on the same day. This affords you the rare opportunity to `jump start´ the work on your relationship in an intensive way. There is usually a waiting-list for these days.)

Week-day couple’s counselling sessions (50mins) are charged at £100 -£120 in the daytime (before 5pm), and at £110 – £125 from 5pm onwards according to means.

If you have any questions about my approach to relationship counselling or wish to book a session, please feel free to contact Maida Vale Couple’s Counselling.

Needless to say, both straight and gay couples and couples from all creeds are welcome – all you need is an open mind, a good heart – and the willingness to work.
