Madeleine's Background

Madeleine Bocker

Madeleine Böcker BA (Hons.), Dipl. Psych., MA, completed a four-year post-graduate Diploma-course in Transpersonal Psychotherapy and Counselling at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (which is BACP and UKCP accredited) and is currently working towards personal accreditation.

Transpersonal Psychotherapy is an integrative approach with a holistic and spiritual dimension, giving the therapist a variety of treatment methods, ranging from Psychodynamic Counselling over CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), TA (Transactional Analysis), Existential and Gestalt Therapy to Jungian and Transpersonal concepts. It aims at balancing mind, body and soul, allowing you to live your life consciously and joyfully.

It is noteworthy, that while the Transpersonal Therapist holds the spiritual dimension, there is no “preaching”. The client’s views – or indeed absence of interest in the matter – will be fully respected.

Madeleine worked as an Associate Counsellor at The Tuke Centre, an evidence-based Psychodynamic practice in York for over two years, and has been working transpersonally in private practice in London for three years.

She also works in a group-therapy programme, helping women-survivors of abuse with eating disorders and self-defeating behaviours, co-facilitates an Art Therapy group and has co-facilitated a Gestalt Therapy weekend workshop.

Madeleine is experienced at working in extreme situations and on profound issues: In the early 1990s, she supported gay men dying from AIDS during the last year of their lives, dealing with physical illness, social discrimination, loss and the emotional and spiritual problems brought on by the threat of premature death.

Further, she has worked with people with diagnoses ranging from Clinical and Bi-Polar Depression to Borderline Personality Disorder.

Yet, she strongly feels that people do not have to “be ill” in a medical sense to get involved in this work, but rather sees it as a gift to yourself. She has a special interest in trans-generational work and family constallations, Jungian dream-work and working with the body.
Madeleine has a long and thorough history of self-development.

Madeleine works from the heart to create a safe and warm atmosphere. She holds a humanistic outlook, encouraging the enfoldment of each client’s unique potential.

Madeleine is an Associate Member of the BACP and works within the BACP’s and UKCP’s ethical frameworks.
